This antique silk shantung gown has an empire waist line with a lace bodice and sleeves. Under bodice is silk and needs to be sewn carefully onto the lace over bodice. Lace sleeves are a puff sleeve and have elastic on the cuff area. Sleeve length 18”. Pit to pit laid flat 16”. Empire waist laid flat (Underbust) 15”. Length from shoulder seam to hem 55”. This also has a nice size train with lace appliqués on the edge. That length is 53”. The train IS lined. The back has zip closure and silk covered buttons. One button needs to be recovered. Other features of note: 1/2 inch pleats around the empire waist.
This dress has multiple imperfections and is very much in need of restoration but feels structurally decent. Beautifully hand stitched!
What I know about the dress history: from the estate of an artist and gallery owner in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She passed in 2023. This was HER mother’s gown. No odors of smoke, perfume, mold or mildew. This deserves to be lovingly brought back to life.
